The Medical Director for the Oakville Half Marathon & 10K is Dr. Christopher Woollam MD. He has been the Medical Director at the Mississauga Marathon since it began in 2004. He is a Sport Medicine Physician certified by The Canadian Academy of Sport Medicine. His job is to assist in providing a safe environment for the runners and to provide treatment for any injuries. The medical team is comprised of physicians , nurses and therapists
familiar with running issues. Halton EMS are on staff to handle any serious emergencies. St. John’s Ambulance will also be on course on race day.
An avid athlete all his life Dr. Woollam brings an expertise in running injuries to his position. His associates include other sport physicians and therapists able to provide a varied expertise in sport injuries.
Manual therapy, acupuncture, ART , massage therapy are some of the tools used in the management of the many and varied musculoskeletal issues encountered in a sport practice.
Dr. Woollam’s particular interests are lower extremity injuries and biomechanical management of the foot and orthotics. Hockey injuries are also high on his list.
Currently, in addition to the Mississauga Marathon, Dr Woollam is Medical Director of the Toronto Marathon (www.torontomarathon.com)as well as Team Physician to the Mississauga IceDogs

Head Therapist
The Head Therapist for the Oakville Half Marathon and the Mississauga Marathon is Russell Gunner, C.A.T. (C). He is an Athletic Therapist certified with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association. His job is to assist Dr. Woollam in providing a safe environment for the runners and to provide treatment for any injuries. The therapeutic medical team that he organizes consists of fellow athletic therapists, physiotherapists and massage therapists from across the GTA.
As an experienced triathlete himself, Russell has been treating running injuries for over 15 years. Along with the other therapists in his clinic, Club Physio Plus has become one of the leading sports medicine facilities in Mississauga.
Russell has particular interest in treating all running injuries, such as Iliotibial band, plantar fasciitis and most other lower extremity issues. Along with the Mississauga Marathon, he has also had the opportunity to work with the Toronto Maple Leafs as an assistant therapist.
At Club Physio Plus, they have a vast knowledge and experience to help assess and treat any running injury that may come along. With their teamwork of physiotherapists, athletic therapists, chiropractors, chinese doctors and osteopaths, they have become the leading clinic in their field.
